SEO Possibility
As an open-source platform, WordPress is possible for everything that SEO requires – No matter whether it’s about canonical, hreflang, meta robots tags, heading structure, etc, all is possible to be optimised thanks to the nature of the open-source CMS. Unlike many other CMSs which have different sorts of limitations, WP has no such limits and is perfect for SEO, especially from a technical perspective.

Comprehensive Plugins
Again thanks to the CMS being open-sourced, there are countlessly free and paid versions of SEO plugins that you can use to assist in optimising your site’s SEO. Good SEO experts like me can effectively use the right and suitable plugins to fix and/or optimise whatever is needed for your site.
WORDPRESS CONs
Too Many Updates
Also due to it being open-sourced and for security reasons, the plugins you use for your site, including SEO plugins, always have updates waiting for you, which means you have to have your own developer to keep an eye on it and implement the updates when it becomes critical. Well, this is also a defect for SEO since the more updates you do, the more vulnerable your site’s SEO will become – Sometimes plugin providers will add more ‘juice’ to their plugins or implement SEO elements in a self-approbation way which could do more harm than good if your site is already ‘SEO-ready’.

Archive Pages Everywhere
You may already know that WordPress does support unlimited post types to meet your needs. However, this could lead to big issues – No matter if the post type is generated by the theme, a plugin, or created manually, they always come with different sorts of archive pages (we called them taxonomies). They are something a professional SEO should always avoid and think of a way to exclude them from Google. If you don’t know what they are and your website contains many post types you may need to find a good SEO specialist to have a review until it’s too late.
MY SEO TIPS
FOR WORDPRESS SITES
Implement SEO elements separately
Many dodgy agencies out there keen to make changes directly to your theme/plugin files due to their armature technical skills. This could cause you big troubles if you are going to update your theme/plugin from time to time - All your previous implementations will be gone. Make sure you talk to your SEO and ask questions around this.
Don't over-install SEO plugins
This usually happens to SEO DIYers - There are over 1,000 WP plugins that are SEO related! If you are installing or replacing SEO plugins from time to time, just stop it. 99% of the time if you are installing more than two SEO plugins for your WordPress site, you are getting negative results because of this. More doesn't good in the SEO world.
Pick one or two top-rated SEO plugins, understand each functionalities they provide and that would be enough.
Find a good developer when rebuilding your site
A good website developer is critical if you care about your site's SEO. A good developer should contain following SEO related skills:
- Be able to simplify codes - No redundant HTML codes or unnecessary service-side codes when building your site.
- Know fundamental SEO elements for web pages - Such as when and where to use headings, DIV tag, the best practice of page URLs etc.
- Happy to listen to what SEOs suggest - I've seen developers rejecting all change requirements from SEOs which ended up bad results after rebuilding their site. You need someone who would listen to, or at least take into serious consideration, what SEOs say.
- Responsive - This is especially important near the launch of your new website. Sometimes, not all SEO elements can be tested or ensured 100% faultless prior to the launch. It is extremely important that your developer is contactable and actionable during the launch.
Use a good server for hosting
Unlike other CMSs such as Shopify, your site speed is not guaranteed since you need to host your website on a server that you select.
Why is it important? Have you heard of Core Web Vitals yet? If not, just go to the link provided by Google to understand it right now until it's too late. In short, you would get some benefits for your site's SEO if your site speed meets some/all of their requirements.
How to select a good server? - Just don't use any server that costs less than $20 per month - With those, it means you are hosting with hundreds or even thousands of other websites which could lead to performance issues during peak hours. And don't forget to use a hosting that locates in Australia.

In my opinion, it is.
The reason for that is it's an open-sourced platform and you would pretty much do anything you want to do from an SEO point of view.
What's the best SEO plugin you recommend?
Personally, I don't have a preference. Just pick the ones got installed the most, it cannot be wrong. They all are doing pretty much the same thing. But like I said above, don't install more than two SEO plugins at the same time.
Can I do SEO for my WordPress site on my own?
Yes, you can but you shouldn't. If you are still asking such question, I might not be a right fit to your business. Go Google 'Wordpress SEO DIY' or similar instead.
